DOING THE LAMBETH WALK!
When you think of Lambeth then you think of Doing the Lambeth Walk! The famous song and dance was made famous prior to World War II in the musical Me and My Girl which tells the tale of a Cockney Barrow Boy. At this time the street of Lambeth Walk was a bustling area with shops and a market but unfortunately during World War II the street alongside many areas of London suffered extensive damage and Lambeth Walk was never to be the same.
Sadly over the course of time the street has lost many of its Victorian buildings, which were demolished to make way for ‘modern’ 1970’s buildings, which ironically have now been demolished to make way for modern buildings! What a shame as the Victorian buildings would certainly have stood the test of time.

Situated in South London the London Borough of Lambeth comprises the central London districts of Lambeth and the South Bank. With Brixton as its civic centre the borough has a diverse selection of districts including Clapham, Kennington, Stockwell, Streatham, Tulse Hill, Vauxhall, West Dulwich and West Norwood to name just a few.

The London Borough of Lambeth is ideally placed for easy travel throughout the capital. Many underground lines serve the borough as well as efficient bus routes. With the introduction of the congestion charge public transport and innovative ideas such as cycle hire have become more popular to get around the city.

Due to its proximity to Westminster the Lambeth area suffered greatly from stray bombs but thankfully period properties survived in the borough including those from the Edwardian, Georgian and Victorian eras. Many post war developments were developed to meet the need of the ever-increasing population, many of which are developments of flats/apartments due to the limited space available.
